Living A Life Of Preferences Or Living A Life Based On The Word Of God

There are two ways to live.
Either you set your own agenda or you live by God’s agenda. When you set your own agenda, you will never have the deep sense of abiding joy and peace that comes to those who submit to God’s ways. When you set your own agenda, your life will seem a struggle for meaning and purpose.
But how do we let God set our agenda? The answer is by spending time in his Word. This isn’t a simplistic answer. It’s not a lot different than spending time with a friend in order to develop a friendship. It’s not much of a friendship if we do all the talking about ourselves and never listen to or act interested in or involved in our friend’s life. That’s really just using our “friend” to selfishly meet our own needs.
Abraham was called the friend of God in James
2:23 because he “believed God” and did what God told him to do. That’s the kind of friends God is looking for! God’s friends put His interests first! “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given you as well.” Matt. 6:33

Why I Believe the Bible is True

I believe the Bible is true for many reasons. I once heard an old preacher say, “the liberals got to me too late,” meaning he had accepted the Bible as true before the liberals could attack it! That’s the way it was for me. I accepted the Bible as the Word of God even before I was saved. It was only later that I had to deal with all the attacks on it’s veracity.

Looking back,  I believe I first saw the Bible in the lives of people I loved and respected. Ruby Haynes was fond of saying,, “Your life may be the only Bible someone may ever read.” I believe I came to faith in the beginning because I saw the truth of the Bible lived out in men & women’s lives.

It’s also true that I believed the Bible was true because the Word of God “spoke to the deepest needs of my heart.” At the time I didn’t completely understand that was the  Holy Spirit, speaking to my heart as I read the Bible. I had lived long enough to know that I needed help as a husband, father, business owner and as a man trying to make his mark in the world.

I found everything I was looking for in the Bible, because it led me to put my faith in Jesus Christ. That is really why we have the

God’s Activity in Your Life

I just wanted to share a testimony about God’s activity. We serve a big God. He created all that we know simply by speaking the words, “let there be”. That same God has given us His Word, not just as a comfort when we are in need but to act upon in faith. “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence  of things not yet seen” Hebrews  11:1 KJV.  Note the result of faith in verse two, “For our ancestors won God’s approval by it.” HCSB

Hebrews 11 is called the “roll call of faith.” It’s God’s Hall of Fame! It contains examples of people who trusted God in all kinds of circumstances.  It was written to show us how we must “live, by faith, not by sight” 2 Cor. 5:7.  Prayer is trusting that God will act on our behalf. It’s actually participating in His activity.

I saw that happen this week. I saw God intervene. I’ve seen it many times before but it’s always a cause for rejoicing and praise! We can never thank God enough, nor praise Him enough! He is always working (John 5:17). Our problem is that we just aren’t trusting and praying and acting on our faith.

In the past week I’ve seen God in action in many different ways both big and small. My point is that God is looking for people who will trust Him and act on that trust. I’m not talking about
