Is God Angry With Our Sin?

The message of the Bible is clear, God is both a loving and a just God.

Psalm 7:11 tells us “God is an honest judge. He is angry with the wicked every day.” NLT

Exodus 34:6 tells us, God is a holy and just God, “who by no means will leave the guilty unpunished.” The whole verse reads, “The LORD, the LORD, compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, aboundi

ng in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet He does not leave guilty unpunished, He punishes the children and their children to the third and fourth generation.”

  • We must read the whole verse and not just the parts that we like. God is loving, kind and compassionate but He is also just and must punish sin. God solved the ” problem” of justice by sending His only Son to bear God’s wrath toward sin.
  • We minimize our sin. We categorize it as little sins and big sins but all sin is against a holy and just God. Therefore we must realize that God views our sin as “wicked.”
  • We don’t hear much about the wrath of God today. It isn’t a popular subject but it is a Biblical truth we ignore to our own destruction.
  • We don’t have to experience the wrath of God if we take His Word seriously. We can find forgiveness, restoration and hope in Jesus Christ.
  • “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Romans 10:13

Spiritual Warfare 102

Last Sunday’s sermon was an introduction to the fact that as Christians we have an enemy of our soul. Christians who are serious about following Christ will meet resistance and opposition as we seek to be obedient to the commands of Christ. In order to overcome our three enemies, the world system, our flesh and the devil ( Eph. 2:2-3), we must develop spiritual disciplines.
Those disciplines are spending time working on our relationship with Jesus Christ. We do that through investing in  the study and application of the Scriptures, prayer, sharing our faith and ministry to others.

Today we will look at specific actions we must take to be victorious in our Christian life. We must wake up to the reality that the Christian life is more than just protecting our faith but an entrance into a fight to advance the cause of Christ. If we are to be true to the clear teaching of Scripture we must  be properly trained and equipped.

Spiritual Warfare 101

When you confess Christ as Savior and Lord you switch sides in the battle of life. Some people don’t know or understand that we have an enemy of our souls.

1 Peter 8:8 tells us to “Be sober-minded; be watchful. You adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”

There are 3 wrong responses to spiritual warfare.

1.) There are no spiritual battles at all. Christianity isn’t an entrance into warfare but an escape from it.

2.) The battle is over and we simply rest in the victory Christ has won.

3.) Because of Christ’s victories, our warfare is always defensive, rather than an offensive struggle.

While there may be some truth in each of these statements, the Bible is clear we have an enemy whose goal is to “steal, kill and destroy”,John 10:10. That is why believers are provided the “sword  of the Spirit” an offensive weapon. Ephesians 6:17. Join me today in learning how to retake territory the devil has stolen.

Blessings,

Pastor Lynn
